Weeds are a significant problem that can seem to never end. Not only do they destroy the aesthetics of your landscaping but many HOAs will fine you if they are not taken care of in a timely manner. There are two general types of weed treatments. The first is pre-emergent treatments. These are designed to prevent the seeds of unwanted weeds from germinating.
These treatments are most effective when done when temperatures are still low and before the soil has begun to warm. Often these treatments are used for annual weeds, like crabgrass. Usually, a pre-emergent treatment can be identified by the blue or yellow color of the product. Once the product is applied to an area, if it does not rain within 7-10 days, it is recommended that a sprinkler system is used on the entire area. The water will help to pull the product down into the soil where the seeds are trying to germinate.
The second type of weed treatment is a post-emergent treatment. These are designed to kill any existing weeds on your property. A post-emergent product is applied directly to the weed and will eventually make its way to the root system. Post-emergent weed treatments will typically work within a few days, however, it can take up to a week to start seeing results.
